Thank you to everyone for your help in detecting this rather thorny issue, and especially to pcguru who came up with the vital clue that got me to the solution. However, prior to that I DID find two files that were humongous in the directory on the website. This will hopefully just get you back in a state where you can now make choices which modules you want to keep till you sort out memory requirements with your provider.
