The error you will typically get is "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with If the time is to far off, it may not be able to synch with the time server.Windows gets the initial time from the BIOS, so check to see if the Click ok, then ok again. You might get some wanrning about empty strings, just hit OK the do a manual resync (update now) and you'll be in business.

Thank you so much. This is especially true of older Windows releases and remains true for Windows 7. Though if someone knows the address of a UK time server I can double check this. After months of fiddling with Vista Ultimate I was able to quickly fix it.

I just upgraded to Vista, and I was not having this issue with XP, so I don't think the hardware is the issue.
